$1.5 million committed to Cockburn volunteer services HQ
Monday, 24 October 2011 07:30

During an afternoon visit today, the Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government, the Hon Simon Crean MP, and Melissa Parke, Federal Member for Fremantle, confirmed the Federal Labor government's election commitment to partner with the City of Cockburn in building a new emergency services and volunteer bush fire brigade headquarters.

"This new, centrally-located, accessible facility will benefit the community by improving response times and by providing greater opportunities for community involvement and volunteering," said Ms Parke.

"In housing the Cockburn Emergency Service and South Coogee Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade this purpose-built facility will foster greater efficiency between the two organisations and streamlined service delivery to the community."

The federal government will provide up to $1.5 million for the $3.825 million facility, which will be situated at the corner of Poletti Road and Spencer Street in Cockburn Central.

The project is one of 85 initiatives funded through the Federal government's Community Infrastructure Grants Program, which aims to provide long term improvements in productivity, liveability and sustainability for communities across Australia.

Minister Crean and Melissa met at the city administration complex with Mayor Logan Howlett, Cockburn councillors and volunteers from the two organisations.
