Federal Member for Fremantle, Melissa Parke will officially open the first stage of upgrades to Bibra Lake tomorrow, Tuesday, 19 January 2010.
"The rehabilitation of the lake's shore and complete overhaul of the old Cockburn Cruiser playground, together with the addition of new recreational paths and trails, a bird hide, and second playground have greatly enhanced the amenity of the Bibra Lake reserve," Ms Parke said.
"This combination at Bibra Lake of conservation and improved public amenity is a perfect example of the broad community value of properly protected metropolitan wetlands."
"It is reassuring to see a local council placing a priority on the provision of quality public open space that also provides a haven to local and migratory wildlife."

Subsequent phases of the Bibra Lake Landscape, Recreational and Environmental Management Plan will see construction of a new swamp boardwalk on the north shore, another bird hide built for educational programs, placement of interpretive and information signage, and further conservation measures.
The entire project is expected to create eight full time jobs over its 10-year span.
For the initial phase, the Federal Government contributed $623,000 under its Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program. The City of Cockburn has allocated $1.4 million of municipal funds.
Along with Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett and Cockburn councillors, Ms Parke will tour the new facilities following tomorrow's launch. |
