National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Awareness Campaign

I am pleased to be co-hosting a forum on the Australian government's NDIS at the Fremantle Town Hall on 15 November and invite you to come along and provide input that will help to lay the foundations for this major Labor government reform.

Currently, the disability support system is underfunded, inequitable and poorly coordinated so that people with disabilities and their families are faced with navigating a complex maze of services that provide little choice or control. The vision of the NDIS is to provide people with disabilities access to a system like Medicare that means each person gets what they need in order to lead a properly supported life at home, at work, and in the community.

Last month the federal government secured the agreement of all states and territories to work together to make sure that reforms needed to implement the NDIS are made by mid-2013 — one year ahead of the recommendation outlined in the Productivity Commission's report on Disability Care and Support.
